Safeguard Your Vision With Regular Eye Exams

As we age, many of us may find our vision begins to deteriorate. However, a new-found difficulty reading small print may be the least of your vision problems.

Our eyes can develop a series of different refractive and health issues that may initially seem insignificant, but can cause extensive and irreversible damage without proper treatment from a trained eye care professional.

At Clarity Optometry, it’s our privilege to help our patients manage the health of their eyes and provide them with vision solutions to suit their needs.

Your Age & Eye Disease

One of the most dangerous things about eye diseases is that they can develop slowly without showing any signs or symptoms. While some eye conditions are easily treated, others are permanent and require ongoing management to preserve your vision.

Diseases such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy can have a permanent effect on your eyes health and require the help of an optometrist to manage correctly.

That’s why the Canadian Optometric Association (COA) recommends all adults and seniors have their eyes examined at least every 2 to 3 years. However, most optometrists recommend annual eye exams, especially if you have or are at risk of developing an eye disease or other visual condition.

What to Expect from an Eye Exam

We design all of our eye exams to help ensure our patients feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the entire process.

We start all of our exams with a little chat about your eyes and overall health. We’ll also delve into your family history a little bit to help predict if you are at risk of developing vision or eye health problems. This conversation is also an excellent opportunity for you to ask questions or bring up concerns you might have about your vision. The more information you can give us, the better prepared we are to help you safeguard your vision and eye health.

After this chat, we move on to the rest of the exam. We begin by testing the strength, acuity, and coordination of your eyes. Then, we will test for eye diseases and other potential issues. While these diseases may be outwardly asymptomatic, there are signs your optometrist can look for to accurately diagnose these problems before your vision is permanently damaged.

After the eye disease portion of the exam, your optometrist will share their findings with you and discuss any recommendations they might have. If you require glasses or contacts, you will meet with our experienced team of opticians. Please note that being fitted for contacts requires a contact lens exam and fitting.

We will help find you the perfect pair of lenses to provide you with clear vision and help you find frames that celebrate your style and personality. Your glasses should be an extension of yourself, and we love being a part of this process.

If contact lenses are more your speed, our opticians will happily guide you through a quick educational seminar. This seminar will teach you how to properly care for your contact lenses as well as the best practices for inserting and removing them from your eyes safely.
